Woman killed in double stabbing in downtown Pittsburgh

UPDATE: Police say one of the two women stabbed at a bus stop in downtown Pittsburgh has died.

According to WPXI, the woman died after being taken to the hospital for treatment. Police at the scene say the woman was stabbed in the neck while speaking to an officer.

The second woman's condition is unknown at this time. Police have confirmed to WPXI that the second woman attacked was wearing a hijab.

WPXI reports that police believe the attack was a random act of violence.

ORIGINAL STORY: Pittsburgh police said two women were attacked by a knife-wielding suspect in downtown Pittsburgh Thursday morning.

A witness at the scene told our NBC affiliate WPXI that one of the women who was stabbed was wearing a hijab. Police have not yet confirmed that information.

According to WPXI, the stabbing was reported around 11:30 a.m. along Sixth Avenue.

Police told WPXI that an officer was talking to a woman at a bus stop when someone behind the officer attacked her and another woman standing nearby. The officer tackled the suspect before helping the victims.

Police have not released the suspect's name or a motive for the attack.

The conditions of the women are unknown at this time.
