Kenny Pickett receives team ROTY award
Pittsburgh (WJAC) — The Pittsburgh Steelers announced earlier this week that quarterback Kenny Pickett won the "Joe Greene Great Performance Award" as the team's Rookie of the Year.
The award was established in 1984 and is presented to the team's top rookie performer at the end of each season.
Pickett became just the third Steelers' QB to win the award, joining Kordell Stewart and Ben Roethlisberger.
"It's a huge honor," said Pickett. "I am extremely grateful. There is work still to do. I came in with an unbelievable rookie class and I'm on an unbelievable team. I couldn't have picked a better place to join."
Heading into their Week 18 matchup with the Browns, Pickett has completed 232 of his 360 pass attempts, for over 2,200 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games played.
Pickett has also carried the ball 52 times for 236 yards and three touchdowns.
"Can't say enough about our young QB," said Coach Tomlin after the Ravens' game. "He smiles in the face of it. He's always ready to be that guy in the moments that we need him to be that guy. And it's just good to see the young guy."
The Steelers and the Browns will kickoff Sunday at 1 p.m. on CBS.
With a win over Cleveland, and losses by the Patriots and the Dolphins, the Steelers would secure the 7th and final seed in the AFC playoff race.
