DA IDs man accused of shooting, killing woman during early morning domestic dispute

Cambria County District Attorney Greg Neugebauer has confirmed the identity of the suspect accused of shooting and killing a 38-year-old woman early Saturday morning in Johnstown.

Authorities say Michael Lyles Jr. was taken into custody shortly after the shooting occurred and faces homicide and other related charges.

Investigators say Lyles is being held at the Cambria County Prison and there is no danger to the public.

According to authorities, police were called to a home early Saturday morning along Wood Street for a reported domestic disturbance.

Police say Lyles was reportedly asked to leave the home but returned a short time later and shot and killed 38-year-old Kandace Mervin.

Investigators say further details about the shooting and the investigation will be released at a later time.

Cambria County coroner Jeff Lees has identified the victim of Saturday's fatal shooting at a residence along Wood Street in Johnstown.

Lees says 38-year-old Kandace Mervin suffered multiple gunshot wounds after being shot three times, including twice in the head, and her death has been ruled a homicide.

Authorities say police were called to the home shortly after 4 a.m. for a reported domestic disturbance.

Investigators say police advised a male subject, who Lees identified as Mervin's boyfriend, to leave the home.

Authorities say the man reportedly returned to the home a short time later, at which time he allegedly shot and killed Mervin.

Police have not yet released the man's name.

Lees says Mervin was pronounced dead at the residence just after 6 a.m.

Johnstown police, as well as the Cambria County DA's office and the coroner, are continuing to investigate the shooting.

Cambria County coroner Jeff Lees says a homicide investigation is underway following an early morning shooting in the Hornerstown section of Johnstown.

Lees confirmed that a woman was killed in the shooting and an autopsy is being conducted Saturday morning.

Her identity has not yet been released and Lees says more details will be released following the autopsy.

The coroner's office, as well as Johnstown police, were seen at a home along the 600 block of Wood Street early Saturday morning.

Police have not released any further details about the shooting.
