East Taylor Volunteer Fire Company celebrates new ambulance in 1972
It’s the 75th Anniversary of 6 News and we’re looking back at stories we’ve covered in our 75 years of being on the air.
This week we revisit the time a local ambulance service showed off a new piece of equipment.
First responders like to celebrate when they get equipment upgrades.
This was the case for Cambria County’s East Taylor Volunteer Fire Company in 1972.
Cold weather and blowing snow couldn’t stop them from getting the keys to their new ambulance.
We reached out to the fire department, and they share some additional information.
They say this van replaced their old Cadillac ambulance.
It was a community effort to pay for it, getting public donations, a grant and money from the township.
They say a similar ambulance today costs $140,000.
In 1972, they paid $12,000 for this van.
This ambulance was replaced in 1983.
